The Self Storage Industry

Throughout a lifetime we all accumulate items that we can’t bear to throw away - personal items like toys we loved as a child, or pieces of jewellery with some sentimental memory behind them. Then of course, we have items of furniture that we may need in the future for another house, or of course our children when they grow up and move out.

Electrical appliances that have no space or maybe become obsolete we might need in the future! Most of the time, there’s no reason to chuck away the stuff which we slowly pick up throughout our years. They generally will have another purpose at some point or another, and they might mean the world to us. So what do we do when we run out of space in our already cluttered homes? Self storage of course.

Self storage in the UK has taken a boom recently, and has one of the highest amounts of storage space available at over 20 million square feet. Of course, this seems a lot, but the amount of self storage space is usually in large buildings several levels tall to compensate for the lack of area found on the ground.

The US has made certain that they’re the leaders in the self storage race, with over 1.6 billion square feet available to rent for self storage, and over 41000 facilities available. Within Australasia there are 1000 facilities and 22 million square feet. These numbers are astonishing when considering how much space we already take up!

However, self storage is becoming more and more popular, as we place more sentimental value on our items, and not wanting to part with them.

It seems as though the self storage business in the UK is a fierce race that encourages more and more properties to be snapped up to compete in the fast earning business. More properties are appearing on a suburban and residential basis in order to encourage the luxury of self storage with suburban people, rather than the city slicker types that are constantly finding more space in which to put their stuff!

Self storage is a popular and innovative idea that has the UK considering where to put there stuff. It’s just so much easier to store your stuff that get rid of it completely. You’re probably going to need a lot of it in the future anyway, and some stuff can even be stored and then sold on eBay to gain a profit when you’re convinced you’re finished with it!

Self storage too is encouraging new jobs for people across the world with the industry becoming more competitive and growing larger every day. With such a fantastic way of storing your stuff without it taking up your personal space, there’s no reason why not to invest in some self storage!
